SHAC is an established not-for-profit organisation within the Cairns region, dedicated to eliminating homelessness, and helping families on their path to a secure future. We deliver a range of housing, support and microfinance services to the community.

 

How can we help you today?

  • SHAC delivers temporary supported accommodation and mobile support to families in Cairns who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Support is offered in the form of advocacy, information, education and referral pathways - all of which aim to reduce barriers to housing and increase housing access.

  • The My Money Program (MMP) is a free and confidential financial support service which assists families and individuals to maintain and sustain their tenancy. This includes financial counselling, budgeting, increasing income, reducing debt, assessing housing affordability and building financial safety nets.

  • No Interest Loans (NILs) enables people and families with access to fair, safe and affordable credit to purchase essential goods and services to the maximum value of $2000. Loans are free from fees, charges, and interest.  Pay back only what you borrow.  NILs is a smart choice financial option to help you pay for essentials and get what you need right now.

Housing Support Worker

SHAC is seeking two (2) Housing Support Workers to support families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to achieve secure housing outcomes. We are seeking a person with relevant experience or qualifications in human services to fill this position.

Immediate Housing Response Worker (Singles and Couples)

SHAC is seeking an Immediate Housing Response Worker to support couples and single people to access short term temporary accommodation (including motels) and proactively assist them to transition to secure housing. We are seeking a person with relevant experience or qualifications in human services to fill this position.

Financial Counsellor

SHAC is seeking a qualified Financial Counsellor to work in our My Money Program. The My Money Program is a financial wellbeing service assisting families and individuals to access and/or sustain rental tenancies. The program provides financial counselling, including assistance with increasing income, reducing debt and assessing housing affordability and builds financial resilience and literacy skills.
